Hello, I’m Jamie Clapham
Serving this district and our community the last three years has been an honor and privilege. The experience has truly energized and inspired me to continue working to strengthen our schools!
As a public-school parent, PTA volunteer since 2018, and a child of educators, there is a special place in my heart for public education. Being elected to the board has allowed me to advocate for students and staff in ways that were not possible before. My seat at the table has given me a greater understanding of the challenges our district faces as well as the many successes we have every day.
During my term, I have been an active and committed board member. A few of my accomplishments include:
- Partnering with the district CFO to responsibly manage a budget in a way that allowed pay raises for EVERY staff member in the district (including substitute teachers and bus drivers).
- Improving board/district and board/community relations by hosting public listening sessions multiple times a year.
- Voting to approve a partnership with the Children’s Home Society to provide specialized support for students with behaviors that are difficult to effectively manage in the traditional classroom.
- Making visits to every school in the district and meeting each principal to foster relationships and gain a better understanding of the successes and opportunities for growth in each building.
- State and national school board convention attendance that provided learning opportunities from education experts nationwide.
Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world. ” I want to lead the district in a way that ensures every child in Rapid City Area Schools is equipped to change the world.
